StormImpact Welcomes Bobby Hawthorne to Our Board of Advisors

DUBLIN, OH - StormImpact is thrilled to announce the appointment of Bobby Hawthorne to our Board of Advisors!

As we continue on our mission to revolutionize grid safety and resilience through predictive analytics, we are honored to have an esteemed industry expert by our side.

Mr. Bobby Hawthorne completed his distinguished career at Southern Company in March 2023, culminating more than 43 years of dedicated service to Alabama Power Company. His journey commenced as a distribution field engineer, where he was pivotal to providing crucial support for restoration efforts when needed. This encompassed a multitude of on-system restoration projects and extended to vital off-system restoration collaborations with other utilities.

Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Hawthorne progressed through various roles, each marked by increasing responsibility. He assumed positions such as Line Crew Supervisor, Engineering Supervisor, Operations Manager, and Distribution Engineering Services Manager. Mr. Hawthorne is also recognized as a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Alabama, further attesting to his technical expertise and dedication to the field.

In the dozen years preceding his retirement, Mr. Hawthorne also served as one of the company's esteemed Storm Center Directors. In this capacity, he played an important role in coordinating and overseeing the company's storm restoration initiatives, showcasing his exceptional leadership and crisis management abilities.

Mr. Hawthorne's contributions extended beyond the Southern Company organization itself. He served as the former chair of the Southeastern Electric Exchange (SEE) Mutual Assistance Committee, exemplifying his commitment to industry collaboration and support. Furthermore, he took the helm as the chair of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Mutual Assistance/Emergency Preparedness Committee from 2021 until his retirement in March 2023.

In response to joining the Board of Advisors, Mr. Hawthorne commented: “During my tenure at Southern Company, I collaborated with the StormImpact team for a decade, actively contributing to the development of the Storm Interruption Prediction Model, which was designed to bolster our storm restoration planning and preparation efforts. Witnessing the tool's evolution from a mere concept into a fully-fledged product capable of aiding utilities in making informed decisions for major weather events has been truly remarkable.”

He added “I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to maintain my involvement with the StormImpact team as they continue their efforts to enhance their capabilities even further.”

Mr. Hawthorne’s insights and guidance will be invaluable as we work tirelessly to enhance our predictive models and provide utilities with advanced tools to mitigate storm impacts on infrastructure systems.
